That’s loud, right? It also happens to be one of the most popular blenders in the world, but I’m not here to sell you a blender. I’m here to share with you the why and how it became the most popular blender in the world.

It was a mix of a quirky CEO and the power of social media. Meet Inventor and CEO Tom Dickson. In order to test the durability of the blenders he was developing, Tom would toss in items, crazy items, like Bic lighters, pool cues and lightbulbs. Blendtec didn’t have much of an advertising budget nor did it have a strong social media presence, until one day Tom’s marketing director suggested that he start making videos of his R&D tests and post them online.

They loaded these videos on YouTube and started a channel called, wait for it: Will It Blend? The series exploded.

Since 2006, the videos have had over 172 million views. Make that 172 million potential buyers! Brand Awareness skyrocketed. Blendtec even became a household name with people who were never in the market for a blender to begin with!

The sales of the “YouTube sensation” blenders increased over 1000% thanks to the social media presence. It’s simple genius at its best.

So the next time you start thinking about your social media campaign, try keeping it simple. People all share similar instincts and curiosity is one of them. I don’t know anyone watching right now who wouldn’t be curious to see what would happen if I dropped my iPhone into this blender…and hit start. If Blendtec can make blenders captivating, then you can make your product or service interesting as well.

You want me to do this don’t you? Shall I drop my phone in now?
