I spoke at a big Auto Body Paint convention and learned that (for years) PPG was the world’s leading oil-based auto paint supplier. But when their scientists created a superior paint color match water-borne paint, they knew they had to retrain thousands of body shop painters. Realistically, that meant investing 10-12 months with each painter…and how would the process work? Christine, NOT a C-suite executive, suggested PPG use the same system as Wedding Planners use.  She created a chart tied to training that said, “This has to be done 9 months out from the launch. These things need to happen at 6 months out. By 3 months this needs to be done, etc, right up the last day of the product launch (i.e., The Wedding Day). It was a brilliant and simple training approach that made sure nothing fell through the cracks. Sometimes, the most elegant answer to your problem can be found by looking OUTSIDE your industry.  Do you have examples you could share with our audience?
